Lorraine D. Jackson, Ph.D. ULO Oral Communication Consultant and Committee Chair is a Professor in the Communication Studies Department where she teaches coursework in Health Communication, Communication Theory, Gender and Communication and Public Speaking. Her current research interests include health communication and communication technologies. Her scholarly work appears in journals such as Health Communication, Journal of Health Communication, Women’s Studies in Communication, Communication Teacher, and Academic Exchange Quarterly, as well as several books. She also published Health Communication Research: A Guide to Developments and Directions (with B.K. Duffy). She is the recipient of grant awards from Cal Poly’s Center for Teaching and Learning for enhancing the Health Communication course with technology. Dr. Jackson is on the editorial boards of both national and international journals in her field. Recently, she published “The hybrid course: Facilitating learning through social software” in T. Dumova & R. Fiordo (Eds.), (2010) Handbook of Research on Social Interaction Technologies and Collaboration Software: Concepts and Trends.  She is a member of the Western States Communication Association, the American Association of University Women, and the National Communication Association.

Alexander Dekhtyar (Computer Science/CENG)

Alexander Dekhtyar, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department at Cal Poly. He holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Math and Computer Science from Tver State University, Russia (1994) and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Maryland in College Park (2000). Prior to coming to Cal Poly, Dr. Dekhtyar was on the faculty at the Department of Computer Science at University of Kentucky. His academic interests include uncertain reasoning, management of uncertain information, literary and linguistic computing, traceability in software engineering, information search and data mining and bioinformatics. 

Stern Neill (Orfalea College of Business)

Stern Neill, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University. Drawing on his years of industry and teaching experience, Dr. Stern specializes in marketing strategy, management and research. At the Orfalea College of Business, he teaches an innovative course on exploratory research methods to all marketing students. Dr. Stern’s research appears in Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Global Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, and others. He has also presented research at multiple academic conferences and serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing Management. To support his teaching and scholarly activities, he has generated over eighty-thousand dollars in grant funding.

Anurag Pande (Civil and Environmental Engineering/CENG)

Anurag Pande, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. He received his B. Tech. Degree in civil engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2002 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in transportation engineering from University of Central Florida in 2003 and 2005, respectively. His research interests include traffic safety, intelligent transportation systems, and microscopic traffic simulation.

Scott Vernon (Ag Education and Communications/CAFES)

J. Scott Vernon, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Agricultural Education and Communication Department at Cal Poly State University. He is the senior faculty in charge of the agricultural communication program. He earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Education at Texas A&M University. He has been a faculty member at Cal Poly since 1991. His research and teaching focuses on leadership and communication in agriculture. Dr. Vernon is a professional speaker and speaks to audiences around the world in agriculture and education. He has more than 200 published articles in refereed and trade publications and has delivered several hundred of invited speeches. Dr. Vernon also serves as a public speaking coach for corporate executives and students who participate in public speaking contests. He has coached more than a dozen national champion public speakers.
